About the author: Harold Bell Wright was a best-selling American writer of fiction, essays, and nonfiction. All but forgotten after the middle of the 20th century, Wright had a very successful career overall and is said to have been the first American writer to sell a million copies of a novel and the first to make $1 million from writing fiction.

Storyline: To satisfy the wishes of his demanding wife, Brian Kent robs the bank at which he works. Then, overwhelmed with remorse, he attempts to take his own life on a boat, adrift in a rough river. The boat gets entangled in branches along the shore and Brian is shipwrecked, but alive, when he meets Judy. Judy has a positive influence on Brian. He shares all his secrets with her, including his bank robbery and attempts to move forward and become a better man. A love triangle results when Brian encounters Betty Jo and Judy gets jealous. I will say no more so as not to ruin the story for those who have not read buy the book or seen the film.
