This is a two-tone Seth Thomas pocket watch in a gold filled.
This is a two-tone Seth Thomas pocket watch in a gold filled case. It does not function, and is being sold for parts or re-purposing.
I absolutely adore the two-toned Seth Thomas pocket watch movements. However, they have gotten almost impossible for me to find at reasonable prices anymore. This movement is gorgeous, with the two-toned gold and silver appearance, with a decorated or damascened pattern on it, as well. The balance cock is also intricately engraved. This particular movement is a grade 35, 6 size, 7 jewel movement made in 1905. The serial number is 488687. I was unable to remove the front cover to fully inspect this watch dial. There is a very visible chip missing between the 12 and 1 o'clock positions. I do not see any other obvious hairline cracks or chips through the lens, but am unable to do a complete inspection with the front cover on. Both hands are present, but they show some wear to the blue finish.
This pocket watch case is a 20 year gold filled case from the Illinois Watch Case Company. The serial number on the case is 1142627. I was unable to unscrew the front cover. The front lens is either a high quality, thick acrylic or a nicely beveled glass. Without being able to remove the front cover, I am unable to tell for sure. The back of the case is fairly simple, with an empty cartouche for engraving. There is just a small amount of simple scrollwork around this cartouche. I was able to unscrew the back cover for pictures. However, even after replacing the back cover, there is a slight gap, which I have shown in the photos. This possibly could be user error, as my hands don't always function properly for detail work anymore. Either way, I wanted to be sure and mention it.
There is a good deal of brassing and wear to the gold filled finish around the sides of this case. I have tried to get accurate photographs of this. There is brassing on the outer edges of the front cover and along the outer edges of the back cover, as well as some brassing along the sides of the case body. There is also brassing and wear to the stem area near the crown. There is also a small dent along the side of the case body between the 1 and 2 o'clock positions. (This is shown in the photos.) The bow for this watch is missing.
This buy pocket watch measures 47mm wide and is just over 57mm tall from the bottom to the top of the crown. Enjoy!
