HOW DID NOTE BOX COME TO BE??
When I moved 2500 miles away from home, my mom gave me a jar of notes. I was to open a note a day and each note would include a personal message for me. These little notes uplifted me when I was feeling low and missing her. Sometimes it was something simple as "Make sure you're smiling today!" or even $20 to treat myself to flowers, lunch, etc. I looked forward to these notes and was bummed when I had opened them all.

A few months later, I made the first Note Box for my mom's birthday. I handmade every envelope and card and put it in a wooden chest with 365 cards for her to open. It had photos that would be nostalgic for her, quotes that might inspire her or make her laugh, stories about my childhood that she may not have known about, a CD (when she opened up a card it would say "Listen to Track 2"), and of course, things that were personal to who she is.

It was a gift that she continues to cherish because every year I give her new notes for her Note Box. With our distance, it keeps us close and makes her smile!
