Vintage grey and pale blue buy striped soft cotton panel

This lovely vintage midcentury panel is made of a grey and pale blue striped soft cotton with black sashiko stitching throughout.

"Zo" means miscellaneous, and "kin" means cloth, and they were used as dust cloths or cleaning rags. By taking smaller pieces of fabric too small for other uses, layering and quilting them together, it was possible to create a beautiful and functional item while prolonging the life of the textile. The type of stitching used to attach all of the layers is called sashiko stitching, and often you see interesting patterns and designs created with the stitching, in addition to the patterns you see in the cloth itself.

These days, zokin remain very useful and beautiful items to have around the household. You can use them for their traditional use, for cleaning and dusting, or use them for decorative purposes as well.
