buy CTA at 45 is a book of recollections of the first 45 years of the Chicago Transit Authority.

"Private developers started transit service in Chicago in 1950. Successful at first, they were ultimately driven out of business by rising costs, changine demographics, competition of automobiles, and over regulation. Public ownershp was adopted in 1947 when Chicago Transit Authority using revenue bond money, bought up the lines, funding service solely from user charges. In the 1970s some public money from city, state and federal sources began to support area-wide transit. Still, in 1993 public transit nationwide, particularly its oldest components, again faced a major crisis. Highlights of this process are recalled here ."

Profusely illustrated, this is a book for the Chicago history or transit buff.

This book is in very good condition.
