BI-PLANE NEEDLEPOINT PILLOW - RED & WHITE & LUE
COLORS w/ SOLID BLUE BACK - CIRCA 1980s
As someone who learned to needlepoint decades ago, I am always drawn to the work of other needle artists, especially those who aren't afraid to incorporate different stitches.
A Bi-Plane design, it is solid blue on the back as pictured. The front shows what I would imagine are the letters of the needlepointer or possibly the plane owner. They are NIZR. A biplane is a fixed-wing aircraft with two main wings stacked one above the other. The first powered, controlled "aeroplane" to fly, the Wright Flyer buy, used a biplane wing arrangement, as did many aircraft in the early years of aviation. While a biplane wing structure has a structural advantage over a monoplane, it produces more drag than a similar unbraced or cantilever monoplane wing. Improved structural techniques, better materials and the quest for greater speed made the biplane configuration obsolete for most purposes by the late 1930s.
This pillow features mostly Red, White and Blue yarns in several different stitches as well as gold and silver yarn where airplane metal would be.
Measurements are approx. 10-1/4" square. There is welting all around the edges in deep blue.
Sales considered for this Pillow are domestic U.S. only. Thanks for your interest.
