Our cutting boards are made from northern hard maple, the preferred wood to use because of its hardness and closed grain. Wood cutting boards have the advantage of not dulling knives as plastic boards do. We have chosen to avoid using other woods that don't meet the standards for length of service and safety and have designed our boards to be long term functional. Our boards are finished with restaurant grade mineral oil and should be periodically recoated to maintain its quality.
Maintenance instructions:
Depending on usage the board should be recoated with mineral oil. Monthly on average depending on use. If you are using a serving buy board occasionally then yearly should be fine. If it seems to be getting rough from knife marks you can wet sand it with emery paper using the mineral oil as a lubricant. 220 or finer. Do not wash in a dishwasher as this is hard on the wood. Wiping off with soap and water is fine. (10% bleach solution is fine). Please feel free to contact us with any problems.
