The collar itself is sturdy. This collar has 1 1/2" strapping with a 1 1/2 " heavy duty, plastic squeeze buckle. The hoop is attached securely to the collar, and the whole thing is covered with fake fur for comfort. These collars are NOT adjustable. Measure snug around the middle of your dog's neck…. the number you get is the size to purchase. The soft, fake fur padding around the neck eliminates any irritation, and makes it very comfortable for them. The wire inside the tubing allows you to adjust the hoop for your dog… up or down, round or oval. Look at the metal yardstick to see the length of the hoop. There should be at least 2" to 3" buffer space between the nose and hoop. A durable, plastic squeeze buckle makes this collar easy on / easy off! These collars are also easy to wash.... rub in soapy water, rinse, squeeze out the excess water, and drip dry! A quick brushing will fluff out the fur.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Why aren't these collars adjustable? They don't need to be. My dogs get groomed very short in the summer, and the collar still works, even if it's a little loose. I have found that if you simply measure snug around a dog's neck and purchase THAT size, the collar will fit comfortably. These collars are designed to be worn with the buckle UNDER the neck. Each dog is unique in the way they get use to them, but they seem to figure them out.

How tight should I measure? A snug fit works best, with one finger under the tape measure.

Can I leave this on my dog all day? All dogs are different, some need them in the house, some only wear them outside, some need them in unfamiliar places or if you move furniture around. As a safety precaution, it's best to leave them OFF if you aren't around.

What is the hoop strength? As the size of the collar increases, the strength of the wire gets stronger. Very small collars have softer wire to keep them lightweight, mid-range collars have stronger wire, larger collars have heavy duty wire. If your dog is young or very energetic, your dog might do better with stronger wire inside the tubing.

How do I determine what size hoop my dog needs? Be sure to double check the measurement on the metal yardstick to see the length of the hoop - to see that it's large enough to clear your dog's face. An easy way to check is to measure along the side of your dog's face, from their collar to their nose, then check the size of the Bumper Collar hoop. There should be 2" (small dogs) to 3" (large dogs) buffer space between the nose and hoop.

Chubby dogs or dogs with a thick neck or short nose might do better with a SMALLER hoop, and dogs with a thin neck or long muzzle may need a LARGER hoop.

EXAMPLE: A pug may measure 15" around the neck, while a border collie may ALSO measure 15" around the neck. The pug would do best with a SMALLER hoop, the border collie would need a LARGER hoop that extends out farther. If you are unsure, I can do a transparent overlay with a side view/ profile picture of your dog.

How do these Bumpers fasten? To help keep the collar balanced, they fasten with a plastic pinch squeeze buckle. They are not adjustable, but they ARE padded for comfort.

What is the process for custom orders? First, you get a snug measurement around your dog's neck. Then contact me directly with your custom order request. I will need:
Snug neck measurement around the middle of your dog's neck, neck to nose measurement, fur color choice, hoop color choice, breed, weight, age, and activity level.
To check the hoop size, measure from the middle of the neck to the nose, going along the SIDE of your dog's head. (this is the neck to nose measurement) Look at the measuring stick that the collar is displayed on to see if the hoop is the right size.
All this information will help make to make a Blind Dog Bumper Collar that works best for your dog's needs. Then what? I make the collar, I'll send you a picture of it through ETSY messages.
