What an interesting and unusual rug! The artist from whom I got this also had collected other rugs (listed separately) that had been inspired by the Modern Art movement of the early 20th century. I think this rug is unique in that it blends two different influences: the composition owes a lot to the modern art movement and artists who were playing with color and form, mixed with a rainbow "rag rug" effect. I think this was made around 1920, give or take a decade, given the colors, composition, and fabrics used here. The rug is in POOR condition with multiple holes, which you can see in photos 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8. The holes in photos 6 and 7 are about ping pong ball sized, which the other three are somewhat smaller. With that much wear and tear, it's unusual that the perimeter is intact and strong, with only one corner showing a loose hook. The last two buy photos shows the back of the rug, and the floor tiles under the rug are 12" square to help give you a sense of scale. This was once a spectacular and interesting rug, so if you're able to repair or cover the holes, this could still have some decorative life. It could also make a good wall hanger. The rug measures about 59" long by 31 1/4" wide. In poor condition.
