A tribute to cycling legend Beryl Burton.
This illustration marks the infamous moment in 1967, when during a 12-hour time trial she overtook the lead male rider, offering him a liquorice allsort as she sailed past, continuing on to smash both the women's and men's world record. It was two years before a man bettered it. She still holds the women's record to this day.
A housewife from Yorkshire who worked 12 hour shifts on a rhubarb farm to make ends meet, who suffered a heart arrhythmia as a child and was told not to exercise.
One of my all time heroes!
