Vintage Swank Marco Polo buy Collection Gold Toned Hand Painted Delft Porcelain Cufflink/Tie Tack Set W/Box

This fabulous set from Swank's Marco Polo Collection features hand painted delft style porcelain with gold tone settings. The image depicted on the porcelain is a Dutch windmill and canal scene. The set is in the original box and I suspect was not worn.

Swank as founded in 1897 as the Attleboro Manufacturing Co., adopted the Swank Products, Inc name in 1936 and a shortened version, Swank, Inc in 1941. The original Attleboro Manufacturing Co specialized in women's jewelry until 1908 when they created a new division called Baer and Wilde adding focus on men's accessories. It was Baer and Wilde in 1918 that created a highly popular snap closure button cufflink called 'Kum-A-Part'. The business was also known for making dog tags, ID chains, Bronze Stars and Purple Hearts for the American military during the Second World War. And it was during this time the men's business became more in demand than the women's and that was where their focus remained until the 1980s. Swank is largely known for cufflinks, tie clips and lapel pins although they also created button sets for suits. I was unable to find specific information about the Marco Polo Collection but in my search found that all the sets seemed to be hand painted porcelain, possibly European made, in this same boxed set. In the 1950s and 60s they acquired other brands to continue expansion in the men's market which included cologne, wallets and belts. Swank was acquired by Randa Accessories in 2012 and they have discontinued the Swank brand.

The face of the cufflinks are approximately 1". The face of the tack pin is approximately 5/8".

The cufflinks and pin are in excellent condition. As I mentioned above, I think they may not have been worn. However, there is some damage to the inside of the box. The material that lines the inside of the lid is cracked.
