Matisse necklaces are exceedingly rare and very hard to find in good condition. Founded in 1946 by Jerry Fels, Renoir of California produced copper jewelry until about 1964. The Matisse mark was used only on the luscious enameled pieces produced starting in the early 1950s.
This gorgeous necklace, featuring red enameled copper (an unusual color for this type of Matisse necklace; it is usually blue) is in excellent condition. The backs of some of the links show slight wear, but it does not affect the integrity of the links and is not visible when the necklace is worn. The necklace is 15 inches long, including the clasp.

I ship items by first class mail. If you read my Etsy profile, you will find that I have spent buy a significant part of my life searching the world for the very finest vintage beads and vintage jewelry. My specialty is beaded costume jewelry, which is a very difficult genre to collect. It's hard to find jewelry in which every bead in the set is in good condition. In addition, one has to know the background of every type of bead imaginable. As a Harvard professor who studies the brain, I know how to move into a new field and learn everything that I can about it, and that is what I have done in the field of vintage beads and jewelry. When I am not dreaming up experiments, I'm researching the background of the many treasures that I have collected.
