My story...
I am a classy, cloth edition of a 1950 Macmillan & Co. of London publication of Mansfield Park. I contain 40 enchanting and intricate illustrations by the eminent book illustrator Hugh Thomson.
For sale with the book is its original if not very spectacular dust jacket now covered for further protection - the cover can buy be easily removed.
Practicalities:
-I am a larger pocket book measuring H 17.5 cm x W 11.5 cm.
-I weigh 311g.
Condition Summary:
I am in very good plus condition on my outside and fine condition on my inside. My dust jacket is only acceptable as it is erratically worn. For specific condition points see below.
So why buy me?
My deep-red cloth cover is very striking and attractive to look at; the cloth on the front and back has retained its vibrant, colour and its very clean!
My page tops are also dyed a matching red to suit by general aesthetic and are in a very respectable condition with barely a scratch or rub.
You will immediately notice my spine has been superbly decorated in gold gilt, which still gleams bright!
I am also extensively illustrated with 40 of Hugh Thomson's superb black and white drawings which were first published in 1896. They are all full page size - such a treat and really bring the characters to life!
For the academic I also contain an interesting Introduction by Austin Dobson.
Inside my endpapers and pages are generally in remarkably fine condition.
My binding remains firm and true!
As I am around 70 years old I will have some wear and tear, although in my case very little.
Cloth cover: spine ends are mildly crushed and gently worn in colour at both ends; corner tops are gently worn.
Page edges: clean and bright.
Endpapers: clean; free from inscriptions; teeny tiny faint pin prick marks on the front free paper (barely noticeable).
Reading pages: excellent; one tiny folded top corner was found whose creasing has affected two further top page corners causing a minute kink (I am only pointing this out as I have said the book is near fine). You are talking mms of page and the flaw is very mild.
Dust jacket: please see photo - note large chip at base of spine and severe tanning to spine and top front edge plus fading to spine titles and decoration; price clipped; marks to top front edge right hand corner.
A note from my seller:
A gorgeous looking classic edition in near fine condition with Hugh Thomson's extraordinary illustrations - what a treat!
