Beautiful piece of silver plate marked 'CHRISTOFLE' and his trademark - one of the finest silversmiths of Paris known for exceptional quality. According to the trademark, this utensil was made in the late 19th to early 20th century. Approximately 81/4" in length and the bowl is @ 2 1/2" wide. No mono, with a super ornate shell shaped pierced bowl. Impressive, stunning piece for any table decor.
Condition:
Remarkably excellent condition with a warm, glossy patina. Handle shows slight surface scratches. Bowl is lovely.
The sweeping design has the harmonious lines buy of a violin and is reminiscent of the famous German "Altfaden" cutlery service. The classic pattern of the "Chinon" cutlery dates back to the year 1862 and is an example of the Louis-Philippe style popular at that time. For a long time Christofle's silverplated "Chinon" cutlery set was also known under the name "Fiddle and Thread."
