Handcrafted pentagram.

Approximate length: 45 cm.

This pentagram is made buy from willow wood and on each point is dried moss. On the top point is a synthetic purple leaf and a dried purple putka pod, on the top left point is a miniature pine cone, on the bottom left point is a blue foam toadstool, on the bottom right point is a synthetic sunflower and on the top right point is a miniature pine cone. To the left side is a purple felt witch hat with a dried purple putka pod on each side. In the centre are dried moss, a synthetic red leaf with a dried purple putka pod, a green foam toadstool, a dried miniature pumpkin, a red foam toadstool and hanging down is a small vial with purple glitter inside that says "fallen star dust" on the label, a piece of plywood that has been pyrographed with the words "sprinkle a little magick" with dried moss, three dried purple putka pods and three synthetic ivy leaves around it, an amethyst crystal, a hessian pumpkin and a miniature broomstick made from willow wood, birch twigs and jute string with a green leaf ribbon spiralling down it. To the right side are a synthetic purple leaf, a dried orange putka pod and a synthetic apple.

The pentagram or pentacle (pentagram encompassed within a circle) is a five-pointed star that represents the five elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Spirit. With no beginning, no end and the ever-continuous flow of energy, the pentagram offers unity and protection.

A besom broom has practical, magical and decorative uses.

Traditionally a broom is a symbol of sweeping away dirt in the home. In the realms of magic, this emphasises the sweeping away of negative and unwanted energy from your altar, magical or sacred space. A broom is also used to create a protective circle or to open doorways before rituals, which can keep out unwanted energies or people.

A besom broom is also a symbol of protection. Placing a broom over a doorway, window or chimney protects from negative or unwanted energies entering your home. Placing two brooms with the handles crossed over and the bristles facing upwards protects from evil spirits.

A besom represents both masculine and feminine energies. This is why besoms are used in the Pagan ritual of marriage - a handfasting. For a newly married couple to jump the broom is to bless the marriage with good luck, health, prosperity and fertility.
