This double walled bowl can be used as a functional or decorative item. It can make a striking dip bowl when you are entertaining friends or hold your latest flower buy arrangement (flower frog included). Place it on the coffee table or shelf as a decorative piece or put it to work in the foyer to hold your keys.
It is 2.5 inches tall and 7.5 inches in diameter. The bowl itself is 2.25 inches deep and 4.75 inches in diameter.
I made this bowl upside down on the potter's wheel in my Virginia studio. I opened the clay in a donut shape (i.e., with a hole in the middle) and then separated two rings of clay. I then created a closed form to make the upside down bowl and raised the other ring to make the double wall. After it was dry enough to handle I pierced out a geometric pattern of small squares on the top and the sides. Following the first firing, I glazed the bowl in a yellow glaze and used a brown glaze for the top and sides and fired it a second time. You can see the effects of the firing on the brown glaze as it melt and flows creating various different shades.
