I only ever carry genuine citrine in my shop, and this piece is no exception! Genuine Citrine has not been heated or treated in any way by humans to achieve its colour. Natural citrine is a rare quartz crystal (silica dioxide) that has been introduced to trace iron and heat during its formation by the earth. This gives it its varying colours ranging from clear or smoky, to soft yellow/gold, to a deep honey brown. It's getting extremely hard to find natural Citrine, so most citrine on the market is treated quartz or heated amethyst.
