'Kirke's Mill and Other Stories' by Eleanor Grace O'Reilly is a charming collection of seven short stories for older children including 'A Sister of Charity' and 'Joshua Long's Superstition'.

The book has a vivid blue buy bookcloth hardcover with a printed black and red floral design to the front and spine, with debossed gold detailing on the flowers, title and author's name. The back cover is plain, and the edges of both the front and back covers are chamfered. The condition of the cover is absolutely excellent, with minimal signs of wear to the corners and spine ends. The spine is fully intact and the binding is strong and stable, with no loose pages.

Inside, there are fully intact and highly unusual black end papers to both front and back, with the front bearing a pencil inscription reading 'Alice K Lyon, Barrelton School, 1891'. There is a monochrome engraved frontispiece opposite the title page, complete with the original interleaving. The main text pages are very lightly yellowed but otherwise in great condition, and the edges of the text block are slightly foxed. There are two pages of publisher's adverts at the back of the book, which list other titles from Hatchards. Such a pretty binding in a very striking colour.
