Large Kyanite Raw Specimen buy

GRAVES MOUNTAIN MINE :

We were fortunate to visit Graves Mountain for three days in the fall of 2021 and are still going through the specimens we procured. Working there from start to finish each day gave us a tremendous opportunity to learn the site and bring home many awesome specimens.

All of our Graves pieces were collected by us and have had a preliminary cleaning. Most could use a little fiddling to clean up the fine dirt stuck in crevasses. We prefer to leave that decision up to the buyer- some want spic and span clean, but others feel as though the dirt adds to the authenticity of a piece.

This specimen measures 53 x 100 mm and weighs 184 grams.

We feel that our Graves pieces are more suited for collections and enjoyment, and not specifically for metaphysical use. This is because the pieces from Graves buy typically contain more than one mineral, and we are not experts in the metaphysical use when multiple forms/types of minerals are in a single specimen. History on Graves Mountain:
Graves Mountain is a unique geological formation located in Lincoln County, Georgia and has been a rockhound mecca for years. It is probably the most famous collecting site in Georgia. World's premier location for large, multiple twinned rutile crystals; rutile, lazulite, pyrophyllite, kyanite, hematite, pyrite, ilmenite, muscovite, fuchsite, barite, sulfur, blue quartz, quartz crystals, and microcrystals such as woodhouseite, variscite, strengite, phosphosiderite, cacoxenite, crandallite.

In the 1920's, Tiffany's mined the site for rutile, a substance used for polishing diamonds. At some point thereafter, Aluminum Silicates, Inc. mined the site for kyanite, used to make heat-resistant products. Combustion Chemicals, Inc. mined kyanite until 1984.

We strive to take the most representative photographs of our products. The Graves Mountain specimens can be a little tricky to photograph and present their best colors. We use a color calibrated monitor to assure that we get the best photo. Keep in mind that most people's cell phones, laptops, and monitors are not color-calibrated. This means that images can look vastly different depending on what you view them on. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

One thing we pride ourselves on is showing customers exactly what you're buying. Personally, we don't like to make a purchase based on a “representative” listing that encompasses 45 (or 450) other items.

Sure, it takes more time for us to make a new listing for every stone we're selling. But we believe that shopping virtually should be as close to the “real thing” as possible. If you were in our store, you'd pick up an item, look at it, turn it, hold it to the light, and study it to be sure it is what you want! We think that our customers can do this by posting a unique listing for each item.
