Burley & Winter buy Pottery Company 4 Tankards Set Brown Celtic Symbol Medallion Windmill Smoking Man Bust Rustic Primitive Woodland Farmhouse

This set was made by Burley & Winter Pottery Co. I believe this set is one of the early ones dating from 1872-1885, prior to a new partner, Mr. Brown. Bottoms are heart impressed with the company's mark. Made in Cooksville, Ohio, this company made things for “the things farmer's needed”. Dark brown glaze over molded pottery, similar to bisque, the designs of a windmill, a gentleman smoking a pipe and Celtic symbols reminds the immigrants of the old country. Some of the glaze has not covered all of the pottery when made and gives each piece its own personality. Tankards/Mugs are all damage free and ring when tapped. Nice set to display for the collector, add a touch of rustic farmhouse appeal to the kitchen or primitiveness to the cottage or use while entertaining.
