In Hebrew buy, Michael means "who is like God".
In late medieval Christianity, Michael, together with Saint George, became the patron saint of chivalry and is now also considered the patron saint of police officers and the military.
On the Western Christian calendar the feast is celebrated on 29 September but in the Eastern Orthodox Church, Saint Michael's principal feast day is November 8.
