Here's a pretty, India-inspired wrap skirt made from a relatively light vintage Kantha quilt. One side comes in a green, grey and charcoal stripe pattern with some golden accents, the other is more uniformly tan. The quilt has lovely, multi-colour stitching. The waistband is made from a different quilt in red.
The wrap skirt is about a size small (depending on whether you want to wear it tied at the waist, or a bit lower), with a total strap length of just about 208cm (82 inches). The model in the picture has a waist measurement of 66cm (26 inches) and a hip measurement of 99cm (40 inches). The skirt measures 57cm (22 inches) from top to bottom.
Care instructions: machine-wash with delicate cycle, hang to dry, iron hot
Material: cotton
Please bear in mind that the fabrics I use sometimes have small flaws, such as staining, small holes or patched-up areas. Usually, these are not very noticeable, and they often add character to the piece!
About Kantha quilts:
Kantha quilts consist of several layers of recycled cotton or silk saris. They are held together by a simple, running, “Kantha” stitch that is applied row after row and gives the fabric its unique, slightly wavy texture. This kind of embroidery is most popular with the rural women of Bangladesh and West buy Bengal in India, who spend hour upon hour creating these wonderful textile pieces, each one-of-a-kind. Kantha quilts are decorative as well as useful – as day blankets, bed covers, curtains, wall hangings - or for sewing!
