A beautiful, small and collectible souvenir plate from the city of Portland, Oregon.
This delightful memento depicts buildings and landmarks as seen in Portland, also known as the City of Roses, in the early 1900s.
The elegant Portland Hotel, first opened in 1890, is pictured on the left. In the late 1800s through the early 1900s, the Portland Hotel was reputedly the finest hotel in the Pacific Northwest. It was later demolished in 1951 for parking.
The right side of the plate is an image of the old Post Office, which was later transformed into the Portland Pioneer Courthouse.
The lower image depicts what was known then as the Lower Harbor, re-creating a popular early 1900s image that was also used on postcards and other Portland paraphernalia.
And, of course, the majestic Mount Hood is featured at the top of the plate.
The center circles a shield bearing the words "The Union" and intertwined roses frame the edge.
Appears to be made from a soft metal, perhaps copper? Although there are places that have rubbed away to reveal a greyish color.
There are scratches, nicks, and signs of wear throughout.
The overall measurements are approximately 6-1/16" long x 4-1/2" buy wide x 5/8" from the surface to the edge, as the edges curve upwards slightly, forming a shallow bowl. The plate weighs about four ounces.
