The majestic Lion is portrayed laying down and looking very relaxed in a powerful amber colour Venetian glass cameo. The lion is rich in mythology - from the Nemean Lion of the Hercules labours, the Mithraic Lion and Leo the Lion constellation. This image looks very familiar, as if from a well know sculpture like the Lucerne lion monument.

**Some of these photos may show the image through the back, or at an angle which may distort the shape but shows a clearer depiction of buy the actual image. Like a natural stone, these pieces may have inclusions & markings within the glass itself.**

ABOUT TAGLIAMONTE CAMEOS & INTAGLIOS
Tagliamonte can be considered the only firm in the world that manufactures this kind of stone. Its exclusivity is not limited to the production in itself, but includes the masterful use of a "classical" iconographic repertory. Tagliamonte Venetian Cameos with their fascinating forms are a kind of seduction that belongs to another age.

Tagliamonte is bringing back a manufacturing style as old as Mesopotamia. Vitreous pastes moulded into cameos or intaglios, are a part of jewellery history that in recent years has been largely ignored. The style can be traced back as far as the Mesopotamians, but was further developed by craftsmen from the ancient Roman colony of Aquileia. Mr. Nino Tagliamonte, with two Venetian artists, dedicated five years of research to this project using authentic 18th century plaster matrix carvings - including James Tassie carvings & other artists from original Museum collections. After numerous attempts, they rediscovered and successfully experimented with original Roman blending, processing and casting methods.

The company now has a collection of over three thousand matrices, partly original and partly modern castings, and can produce Venice Cameo gems identical to the antique originals by following the Roman manual processing patterns and formulas.

The cameos are available in a variety of colours, though each is hand wrought with incandescent glass and the exact colour is established only when cooled.
