Deuterocohnia brevifolia
(formerly Abromeitiella chlorantha)
"Argentine Ball"
Bromeliaceae family
Argentina, Bolivia

One of the world's smallest bromeliads, each individual plant is less than 2" tall and wide, but it forms an amazing cluster of mounding heads all growing together, completely encompassing the rock or pot it was growing on! This unique plant is an eye-catching conversation starter for any succulent or rare plant collector's rock garden or ceramic pot.

The "Argentine Ball" can withstand sun, but it looks better with filtered sun, morning sun, or bright light (30% shade cloth). It will grow at a moderate pace to form rounded, mounding, ground-hugging clusters and will grow over its pot and encompass the surrounding table, rock, or ground it is near. Flowers are a singular chartreuse green tube, and nestled amongst the clusters of triangle-shaped, toothed, silvery leaves. Hardy to approx 20F. This plant will not disappoint! In habitat, Deuterocohnias get a lot of their water from fog rolling down the steep, rocky slopes in their native habitat, but in cultivation I water mine about twice a week and also give them a quick splash on the leaves if I am passing by on a hotter, drier day. New growth is a lighter gray-green (like my pics which were in active growth at the time). Last 3 pics are a specimen in a botanic garden and some of my mother stock plants.

Plant for sale is the one in the first 6 pictures, a multi-headed, well established specimen sized plant grown over 4+ years, ready to transplant to a larger decorative pot or into the ground/near a rock to climb.
This plant will be shipped partially bareroot, with soil intact around the roots and wrapped carefully, ready for a 6" pot or larger. (Last 3 pictures are from Botanic gardens specimens and my own collection)

I ship plants early in the week so they are not held over too long in the post office without light or water. Email me if you have any questions, and happy planting!

My instagram is plantfreak8 if you'd like to see plants, plants, and. . . more plants! I take pictures of flora around my own greenhouse, at a nursery where I work part-time, and other places around San Diego County (and sometimes beyond) that have buy neat plants!
