Product code: Handmade shoulder/crossbody distressed buy post apocalyptic bag, sakabukuro cloth, adjustable strap

This isn't a full on post apoc bag, I'm not totally into it but I do love the survival look and I love sakabukuro cotton which lends itself well to that look. Sakabukuro translates to “sake bag”. Briefly, sakabukuro cotton bags were used in Japan in the first half of the 20th century to filter sake wine, filtering that is done today by machines. The reddish brown color is from being treated with persimmon juice for the tannins which acted as a preservative. The bags are now prized by people like me who love to give them new life. This bag has two large lined outer pockets and one small inner pocket. I have left some buy raw unfinished edges but I always secure those edges with stitching to prevent unraveling with use. I just like the look. I added some hardware and a bit of suede trim to one side. The coarse stitching on one of the pockets shows where a worker mended the bag when it formed a hole thru wear. It measures about 12” wide, 10 1/2” tall, and 1 1/2” deep. The strap measures 47” full length and is adjustable to shorten. Magnetic snap closure. Lined in cotton.
