Victorian Rubber Baby Toddler Boots
Here is a rare pair of original late buy Victorian / Edwardian rubber baby shoes or boots. Made of rubber with brown cloth lining. Stamped on the bottom is "Lycoming Rubber Co. U.S.A. Eg. U.S. Pat. Of. Boots measure 6" in length by 2 1/2" in width at the widest. Have seen some wear but still in good condition.
Founded in 1882, the Lycoming Rubber Company of Williamsport, Pennsylvania constructed and operated out of the factory at Rose Street and Memorial Avenue (today known as the Pajama Factory). They began producing shoes in Williamsport in 1883. Its daily output was estimated at 4,500 pairs per day, and the annual value of their products was $1.5 million, gross, at the turn of the 20th century. At its peak, the Lycoming Rubber Company made tennis shoes, KEDS sneakers, gym and yachting shoes, and was one of the largest manufacturers of rubber goods in the US. The effects of the Great Depression, however, were felt sharply in 1932 when the Lycoming Rubber Company, a subsidiary of the United States Rubber Company, moved out of the city and took 2000 jobs with it.
