The Key to the Ballroom Stairs ~ The Starless Sea Inspired Copper Trefoil buy Key Pendant with Bee and Goldstone Cabochon

This pendant is part of my handmade fan art jewelry collection based on the novel 'The buy Starless Sea' by Erin Morgenstern. A magical book about an amazing library hidden under ground that can only be entered through special doors, some of which are locked. I like to imagine what the keys to these locks might have looked like and I've interpreted them here in my baroque style as intricate keys to be worn as necklaces that tell a story.

This one is the Key to the Ballroom Stairs. When Zachary is exploring the underground labyrinth of the Harbor, comes across Mirabel drinking in the wine cellar and asks her to see The Starless Sea. She tosses a bottle down the stairs and it takes a long time to hit bottom. The honeyed sea that used to lap right at the ballroom stairs in the age of gilded parties has now receded deep in the earth as the bees follow the story down and doors are forgotten.

The pendant measures 3 1/4 inches long and is 1 1/4" inch wide at the head of the key. This key had 3 lobes with a 3D bee at the center under a goldstone gemstone cabochon and a round bail for hanging at the top. The whole key is constructed by me, & then goes through the electroforming process, through which all the chosen surfaces are covered in a layer of pure copper plate. The piece is then patinaed and buffed to a vintage looking finish.

I love all the details in this book, the ways objects could tell you the whole story, if only they were laid out in order...
