About Stainless: The alloy of stainless I use is 304, which DOES contain nickel. However, due to the chemical structure of stainless steel, the nickel is the nickel is generally non-reactive with skin. Alloy 304 is commonly used in household appliances (stovetops, refrigerators, dishwashers, etc). Most people with nickel sensitivities do not react to stainless steel - I have many customers who wear my stainless steel jewelry but cannot wear other nickel pieces. Having said that, however, there are still people with hypersensitive skin who will react to stainless steel.
Composition: Iron: approximately 69% Chromium: 19%; Nickel: 9.25%; Magnesium approximately 2%; Silicon: 1%; Carbon 0.08%; Phosphorous 0.045%; Sulfur: 0.03%
About Aluminum: Most people—even those with metal sensitivities—report no reaction to aluminum, especially buy anodized aluminum. It is widely accepted that aluminum is very poorly absorbed through the skin, so you do not need to worry about metal toxicity. The alloy I use is 5356 - H18. Composition: Aluminum: 92.9 - 95.3%; Magnesium 0.8 - 1.2%; trace amounts possible of Chromium, Copper, Iron, Silicon, Zinc Manganese, Titanium
For those curious about the process behind this design: all links are hand assembled by me. The beads are carefully selected to be as blood red as I could find. (In fact, for a few years, I didn't offer this design because I couldn't find the bottom drops in the proper color, and I didn't want to compromise my vision.) The beads are added to 2 headpins; the seed bead closest to each drop is a slightly larger size, in order to create a more realistic tapered look. The drops are then positioned and attached to the metal mesh. Perfectionist that I am, I actually had a friend bite my neck so I could note where the canines hit and properly space the drip marks. For realz! #StuffArtistsDo Note to all the sires who purchase this piece: feel free to rotate the choker on your neck until the marks are in the perfect position for your vampire :)=
