A Vintage, 2 9/16 Inch Tall, Finely Detailed, Solid Sterling Silver, Mythical Poseidon's Steed, Seahorse, Hippocampus Fish, Pin/Brooch

Mythology tells us that Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea, known as Neptune to the Romans, traveled in a chariot drawn by fierce seahorses with heads of a horse and tails of a fish.

This is an amazingly detailed, dimensional piece, 2 9/16" tall by 1 3/8" at the widest. Total weight is 6 grams. It is marked Sterling on the back of the dorsal fin.

It is a side view with a horse-like head, a round protruding eye, an up buy turned mouth and a curled, prehensile(grasping) tail.

Instead of scales, like most fish, it is covered with external bony plates, which are arranged into a series of "rings." It has a dorsal (back) fin, an anal fin at lower front and one visible pectoral (side) fin at the back side of the head.

The pin stem has a working length of a maximum of 1 1/2" and a fully functioning closure.

A lovely addition to any ocean, beach, mermaid lover's collection. The finish has a soft sheen and is somewhat darkened due to it's age. It can be polished to a high shine. I leave that to you. I do have polishing cloths if you need some, just click on the link below to see them.
