Horseshoe has been a beloved lucky motif through the decades. This was made by Arthur Johnson Smith who was in business between approximately 1888 and 1920.
Square nail heads in branches, as well as tips of heels, are defined with gilding while the toe bears flowers. Background is filled with detailed engraved decorations.
There seem no significant faults on the front surface, however, there are some dents to the rear whilst a few visible on the side. Plus there is a shallow hair-line crack, approx 6mm, on the edge near the hallmarks. (Please refer to 8th photo.)
Two small holes on the back of heels have been pierced in the process of creation to release the air from inside to make the brooch hollow structured. Thus these are not faults.
Gilt remains intact in places and pin is in crisp working order.
Overall the brooch is in good antique condition.
May the luck be with you as this brooch shines on you.
