Here is a fabulous atomic replacement lid (~9-1/4" diameter) from the mid century in very good vintage condition (and oh, how I wish we had the matching pan or pot that it originally must have covered)! You will receive just the lid when you purchase this listing. What a GORGEOUS retro "flying saucer" look it has to it! No doubt that it "flew and landed" here straight from the prolific space race atomic design period of the 1950s and 1960s.
This Eames era lid features a beautifully designed, quite tall, elegantly pointed, black plastic centered knob or handle that is complemented perfectly at its base with a super shiny and eye-catching silver ring. LOVE the subtle ombre finish and shading of the light-to-dark “fade” burnt orange painted top! And did you notice the almost genie-like shaped rise and fall to the metal's undulating top of the lid? Such wonderful MCM kitsch!
Unmarked so not sure what brand it might be but appears to be from a high quality manufacturer from that time period. The black atomic knob or handle in particular is in AMAZING condition for its age! It's almost as if it had never been used buy as there are no signs of wear and only a couple tiny scratches on it.
The underside of the lid (where it fits onto the pot or pan) is approximately 9-1/4" diameter wide and has a few spots on the underside's outer lip edge that don't appear perfectly round (likely from use and age), but not too out of whack. When I tested it on a cast iron frying pan in my kitchen, it seemed to work OK, but may not seal your pot/pan completely due to the slight irregularity of the shape.
The painted finish has some small and minor imperfections and scratches from use - mostly on the outer side edges where they're not very noticeable - but nothing that detracts from its MCM marvelosity! Underside of the lid is a silver metal with scratches and some oxidations, and the black plastic handle is attached there with a shiny silver Phillips screw. Unsure what kind of metal it is, but when tested with a magnet, the magnet did not show any signs of wanting to stick to it.
I am certain that the perfect mid century modern kitchen is out there just waiting for this gorgeous atomic lid to retire there. Make it yours today!
Underside measures approximately 9-1/4" in diameter
