Product code: MCM Eastern European (Ukrainian?) buy Landscape Oil Painting by Körmendy Bereza
Overview: Up for sale is a bright and remarkable mystery piece. The painting is a landscape/seascape oil painting on board. The scene is very central/eastern european looking. The pastoral scene shows some bright splotches of color along with interesting black sun. A great almost primitivist style piece. The painting is signed at bottom center and appears to read "Körmendy Bereza." I have been unable to find any instances of this artist's work, but Bereza is a Ukranian/Russian surname and this piece bears a striking resemblance to other Ukrainian pieces I've seen in the past. It is undated, but I would estimate this to date to the 1960's. It's a marvelous mystery piece. Condition: The painting has some small instances of paint loss along the top edge of the painting. Otherwise, very fine condition. The frame has a number of chips and losses, and some of the gilding has chipped off. Please see photos for condition.
