The unit projects dancing flames toward the back which are visible in the close-up picture, (reflected off a st/st fire box insert, not included). You can brighten or dim the glowing logs, increase or decrease the crackling fire sounds, increase or decrease the flame effects, and adjust the amount of heat emitted from the lower front grate, all with the remote control. Must be plugged into a 120v duplex receptacle. Note: We originally got two units, our plans changed and we only used one. The unit we are selling has never been installed.
