Katazome is a method of dyeing fabrics using a resist paste applied through a stencil. With this kind of resist dyeing, a rice flour mixture is applied using a brush or a tool such as a palette knife. Pigment is added by hand-painting, immersion or both. Where the paste mixture covers and permeates the cloth, dye applied later will not penetrate.
About Me: I have been captivated by the intricacy and beauty of Japanese kimonos and textiles as long as I can remember. Over the years, I've made numerous trips to Japan and learned about the weaving and dyeing processes firsthand. I've also acquired many kimonos, silk bolts, haoris, obis, scrolls, boro, and other treasures - as well as some knowledge and a deep appreciation of centuries-old techniques that are rapidly disappearing. I've reached a point where my collection now greatly exceeds my space, and I'll be listing one-of-a-kind Japanese textiles from my collection that I'm proud to share.
