World War I (1914-18) Royal Marines Artillery Commemorative Cufflinks
These are a beautiful pair of cufflinks made with genuine British Royal Marines Artillery buttons (King George V) from the era of the First World War, over 100 years ago. This pair of cufflinks is made from two brass buttons. The Royal Marines Artillery amalgamated in 1923 with the Royal Marine Light Infantry to form the current ‘Corps of Royal Marines'. The Royal Marines Artillery were nicknamed the ‘blue Marines' as buy their original blue uniforms separated them from the red tunics of the Royal Marine Light Infantry. During the First World War they were involved in many landings including the original landings in Belgium and the Gallipoli campaign in Turkey. The cufflinks are made with a swivel back with an attractive diamond pattern on the swivel. They are made using smaller gilt cuff buttons from a tunic, perfect in size for cufflinks and are 18 mm in diameter.
These rare buttons represent a unique part of First World War history. The brass buttons have been beautifully cleaned to retain the original character of the buttons which are approximately 100 years old, whilst highlighting the details of these original buttons.
