ViNTAGE SiLK WooL BlenD KASURi KiMONO FABRiC BoLT 13 meters - oLD buy JaPaNeSe IKaT - FREE SHiPPING!!!

This is a vintage bolt of japanese kimono fabric which looks like a regular Ooshima tsumugi silk kasuri fabric. But this is a silk wool blend, and I do not see any stamps at the ends, so it does not look like it is a registered ooshima fabric. There is a name written at the end, Murase Chiyoko, and I wondered wether that is the person who ordered it or the person who wove it. I am not sure.

This is woven in the kasuri style. I imagine it is machine woven, though. Kasuri is the japanese word for ikat, a style of weaving where the strings of either the warp or the weft, or both, are laid out and dyed before weaving, in order to achieve a certain pattern. It is a painstaking process and involves preplanning, precision, and often, many craftsmen.

This bolt is rather wide, 38.5 cms wide, so i think it may even be for an over kimono or a coat. It is definitely a winter fabric, and must be warm when it is a garment. The entire bolt is slightly longer than a standard kimono bolt at 13.2 meters long.

The fabric is in great condition. Although it is rather old, i do not see any nibbles in the beginning of the bolt from moths. There are no stains at all, and there is no discoloration at all. Perfect condition. Smells fine, too.
