Perfect Gift for Art Fans looking for a unique work of paper art Made.
Perfect Gift for Art Fans looking for a unique work of paper art! Made using centuries old techniques of the traditional Turkish decorative paper-leather cutting art 'Kaati'.
This is a reproduction of a papercut vase motif from an Ottoman Album dated 1618, currently in the archives of the British Museum. The album is now referred to as buy the 'Mundy Album', named after the traveller and author Peter Mundy who bought it in Istanbul and brought it back to Britain with him.
The design of the vase is what we call a “rumi” composition in traditional arts. Rumi is the name of a certain group of motifs derived from animal forms. Rumi compositions offer endless variety and have been used in many different ways for centuries in manuscript decoration, architectural design, on tiles or fabric etc.
The motif is hand cut out of traditional Turkish marbled paper. It comes in a dark grey steel frame, mounted between two transparent acrylic sheets. The frame can be used hanging on the wall (a removable metal chain is provided) or standing upright (the stand is also removable).
