I'm happy to have you accompany me on my journey into Needle Felting! This is a "trip" I've wanted to take for several years, and I'm so excited to have begun! Somewhere in my mind I've been building and storing images of animals real and imagined that are dear to me and I've thought, that has to be felted! If only... Suddenly they all want to be created and I never quite know who's going to emerge when I pick the needle up, ready to begin.
Consider this listing a journey down the stream of my mind. Imagine being in a little boat circling around a large island. The island is full; populated with images of animals & ideas I've placed there to wait for a time when I can felt them. Each felted animal is my attempt to bring alive the captivating "magic" of the animal .in such a way that you too, feel its "magic." One by one, I'm taking an image from the island and sculpting it into the figure listed here.
Needle felting is a very intense process requiring concentration, patience and the love and ability to work in minute detail. The items are sculptured from wool fibers that are poked over and over and over, thousands of times with a barbed needle. This causes the wool fibers to interlock and creates strength in the figure buy while it also shapes the figure.
I love needle felting and I had an especially fun time creating this whimsical pup. Like all pups she's loaded with personality and sure to make you smile. Inspired by the work of one of my favorite felters, Barby Anderson, the basic figure of this pup is modeled from her mouse/bunny pattern, though I made a few changes to adapt it to a pup ("The original pattern was designed by Barby Anderson, copyright 2011." ) The pup's head is a creation from my own imagination. This pup is wired internally so that her arms and legs may be positioned as you'd like them and her head may be turned from side to side. When placed in proper balance, she is able to stand on her own. Her tail helps support her as well. I dressed her in a denim-blue felt romper that I've hand sewn in blanket stitch. The romper is "overall" style with straps over the shoulders and 2 pockets, one in front and one in back above her tail. I've hand embroidered lilac flowers on both pockets. Standing, measured from the ground to the top of her head she measures approximately 4" tall. You can tell by her expression how delighted she is to have a large pink felted balloon tied to her wrist! (Someone thought that was just what she needed! Hmm- I wonder who that could be~?) She is truly a unique pup; definitely one of a kind- guaranteed to make you smile-
*** Please note that while a child may enjoy looking at her, she is much too fragile to be handled as a toy. She is not intended to be a child's toy, however if placed on a shelf out of a child's reach she's an adorable addition to the room decor- or the decor of any room. She will be an excellent addition to anyone's collection ~ or she looks wonderful in the spotlight alone! She is meant to be looked at and loved for the warmth and good "vibes" she will bring to your home!
~I hope she brings as much joy to you as creating her has brought to me!~
