Late Victorian handsewn unisex nightgown full length with pearl buttons buy and broderie anglais cuffs and placket size L/XL
Lovely example of a handsewn British cotton nightgown from the late 19th.
Lovely example of a handsewn British cotton nightgown from the late 19th Century with yoke, placket, collar long sleeves and full length. All seams, embroidery, buttonholes and hems are handsewn on this garment. The gown is gathered into the buy back yoke for fullness. The collar and front placket are decorated with a double frill of broderie anglais lace, the second frill serves to conceal the button placket which has three Mother of pearl buttons that close the garment. The placket and frills are complemented with hand pin tucking and with handsewn featherstitch embroidered borders. This feather stitch embroidery is applied to the collar and the front edge of the yoke. This decoration is continued to the cuffs with a double broderie anglais trim and a hand pin tucked cuff that the sleeve gathers into. I have checked the garment over and can find no stains or holes / damage / repairs.
The gown has a laundry label attached to the back of the colour and the name of its owner is written in ink on the inside of the button band see image 8

Please be aware that our vintage items are preloved and not new. They may have imperfections typical of age and usage. We try to describe the items as accurately as possible
Condition is excellent generally for a garment almost 100 years of age. Condition is excellent with no obvious faults. The garment is unlaundered by me but looks clean and has been steam pressed.
