Add some fun midcentury flair to your home with this one-of-a-kind cocktail or serving tray, which I made by inlaying a collaged stack of "Latin" graphics cut from the album covers of actual vintage LP dance records. The large sturdy wood tray has built in handles and measures 18" x 12" x 3". The wood is painted a glossy black. The buy "Latin" sound was quite the rage in the 1950s and early 1960s and the records always had vibrant graphics and colors!
HOW WAS THIS MADE?
I upcycled this wood tray (see the "before" picture!) by sanding it and spray painting it a glossy black. I curated and trimmed out graphic portions of five different vintage vinyl record album covers. I glued the pieces together and laminated them by hand on the front for a smooth, glossy, water-resistant surface that is easy to wipe clean. This laminated graphic stack was then attached to the inside bottom of the tray with industrial strength adhesive.
VINTAGE MATERIALS
This inlay was made from the actual cardboard album covers, they are not reproductions! As such, they are vintage materials that have character and patina showing that they were bought, handled, played, and stored for decades. Some may show minor signs of ring wear or have a small tear, mark, or water spot. That's how you know they are real! I fully laminate them on the front so all of these minimal imperfections are protected. The wood tray is also used and in good condition.
