We have a pretty French statuette of a Cherub that will make you smile.
We bought him from a fine arts auction here in South West France and his description was
"Angelot en bronze a patine brune H: 13.5 cms Longueur 20 cms"
It is a cute little thing which looks as though he is just about to land.
He is very heavy - weighing 904 grams.
I looked up the definition of a cherub and I found :-
"A Cherub is an angelic being who's being trained to become a Cupid"
I suppose that is one way of looking at it but
"A winged celestial being. The second of the nine orders of angels in medieval angelology."
is more like it.
He is in a really good condition with a beautiful buy patina and he has a little piece of the casting inside him which sounds like
a bell.
I like to be honest with my customers. The auctioneer claims he is bronze, but he could be cold cast bronze.
I have therefore costed him up as such.
