Here is an early hardback edition of The Book of Lost Tales Part One by JRR Tolkien. First published by George, Allen & Unwin in 1983, this copy is a first edition, third impression from 1984. Overall in good condition with just a few condition points to note, detailed below. With the original dust wrapper which reads:

" The Book of Lost Tales was the first major work of imagination by JRR Tolkien, begun in 1916-17 when he was twenty-five years old, and left incomplete several years later. It stands at the entire conception of Middle-earth and Valinor, for the Lost Tales were the first form of the myths and legends that came to be called The Silmarillion."

The tales were published in two parts, of which this book is Part One.

Inside the pages are clean, crisp and tightly bound with no writing or marks. The MAIN CONDITION POINT with buy this copy is to the top closed edge. It is tinted dark purple to match the jacket, but has foxing spots (see photos). The bottom corner of the book has a slight bump.

The unclipped dust wrapper is clean, bright and un-faded with some light scuffs and some indent marks. These are mostly only visible upon holding the book up to the light. Overall the jacket is very smart.
