What do you do with aneighbour's old apple tree that has died? I often trade a bowl for some of the wood - thus the name 'Neighbourwood. I turned this 10 buy inch (25.5cm) salad bowl from a neighbour's tree two doors down our street. The tree had been diseased for some time, resulting in a wood that is very rich in character.
This bowl has been coated with Tung Tree oil (edible) to seal the grain, followed by a beeswax/food grade mineral oil mixture (I use Howard's Butcher Block Conditioner available at many building supply stores). It may be rinsed in warm water and wiped dry. Do not allow wooden bowls to soak in water - and of course they are not dishwasher safe. Recoat as necessary with the above or any edible non rancid forming oil, such as coconut oil, to maintain the luster and protect the wood
This Apple bowl is approximately 25.5cm (10) x 25.5 cm x 8.5cm (3") deep. It would be great for salads, fruit, or simply as display.
Please note that the chopsticks and salad servers are for scale only and may be purchased seperately.
