ABOUT VARISCITE:
Variscite is one the lesser-known gemstones on the market. It is a rare gemstone, as there are only a handful of deposits found throughout the world. Even more unique, it is such a soft stone that transforming it from rough into a cabochon requires lapidary mastery.
Variscite is a rare hydrated aluminum phosphate mineral. Variscite is typically found in smaller crystals that need magnification in order to identify it. It is common to be found in geographic places as turquoise and is, often, misidentified. Variscite color tends towards green and yellow, whereas turquoise tends towards blue tones. The green color is the result of chromium.

Variscite is named after the Vogtland district in Saxony, Germany: Variscia. Variscia is where this gemstone was first discovered in massive aggregate form. To find massive rough is a rare occurrence. Variscite is usually found as a secondary mineral in near-surface deposits in which phosphate-bearing waters interact with minerals that contain aluminum.
