Vintage Lipsticks Set of two Max Factor Hi - Fi
This is a set of two fabulous Vintage Max Factor Hi - Fi lipsticks from the 1950s. They are the same matching style but one of them is a rare to find mini with a slide up mechanism! The caps are shiny gold tone metal and they are faceted all the way around to be 12 sided. The bases are smooth and rounded. Inside the case is printed "Just apply Max Factor's HI - FI and forget it, no waiting no blotting". In the larger one, the original gorgeous FLAMING ORANGE lipstick is still inside and still twists up and down. In the smaller one, the original SPARKLING SCARLET LIPSTICK is still inside and slides up and down. The bottoms both have turquoise and white label reads MAX FACTOR Hi-Fi with each shade name!
The large lipstick measures 2 1/2" x 3/4". This piece is in good vintage condition, still shiny gold and the twist up mechanism still works. There is some very light scratches and minimal wear for age. The inner sleeve has more wear and tarnish and the directions are partially worn. The lipstick bullet is partially used.

Max Factor who became famous for creating cosmetics for Movie stars in Hollywood introduced of Hi-Fi collection in the 1950s. This was the company's first new general make-up range since Society debuted in 1927. Max Factor claimed that it had been developed through the company's research into make-up for color television. To emphasize the point, mirrors pictured in advertisements were shaped like television screens even though the name of the make-up was supposed to invoke comparisons with high-fidelity sound. After starting with buy foundation and rouge, the Hi-Fi range quickly expanded into other areas of make-up, beginning with Hi-Fi lipsticks in 1956, Max Factor's first new lipstick formulation in five years. These new indelible lipsticks came in a jeweler-designed gilt ‘celebrity' case with an automatic (quick-change) refill, a design idea introduced into a number of other lipsticks in the 1950s including Helena Rubinstein's Stay-Long lipsticks (1951) and Revlon's Futurama cases (1955). By the end of the decade the Hi-Fi lipstick range included over two dozen matt, gloss and iridescent shades.
