The Masher Hat has been a best seller since 1998 when Le Petit Chapeau started making hats. A soft comfortable hat that travels perfectly. The brim can be shaped any way you wish and it will stay in place. This has no wire in the brim but the brim will stay as you would like it. These hats also take abuse really well and still look amazing! It is worn lower on the head which helps it to stay put on those windy beach days. In fact, a properly fitting Masher Hat stays on while riding a bicycle.

The proper fit should be snug without being tight and if you put a finger between your head and the hat while it is pulled down it makes it too tight.

This particular fabric is a heavy weight camel coloured cotton with a rough linen weave with a vintage mustard yellow buy grosgrain ribbon.

This hat fits 7 5/8 or a 61 cm head.

The brim is 10 cm at center front, 6.5 cm at center back. The crown is 7 cm at center front.

*The glass manikin is significantly smaller than the hat.

•A flexible measuring tape such as a dressmakers tape. These can be found in any sewing/hobby shop, dollar stores, department stores and any other stores that sell a mending kit or simple sewing supplies. Try your mending kit first if you do not sew. A non-stretchy piece of string measured against a carpenter's measuring tape or yard stick can also be used.

•Your hair styled in a similar fashion to how you would wear it when you wear your hat. ie: If you always wear a bun and you are looking for something to fit over it then measure with the bun in.

Measuring Technique

Hold the end of the tape against the middle of your forehead. With the other hand, wrap the tape around your head just above the ears and overlap the tape. Do not pull tightly. It should be snug but not uncomfortable. Hold the tape on the spot where it overlaps. This number is your head measurement.
There is always a slight variance since they are all handmade. In our soft sewn hats up to 3mm can be added through gentle stretching and a little steam from the kettle.

Le Petit Chapeau works in metric. Traditional hat sizes vary country to country so we prefer centimeters in order to ensure the best accuracy.
