Extremely rare piece of china made in the 1920's for the original Parker House Hotel in Boston, Mass when it was owned by the J.R. Whipple Company. This piece is in perfect condition for its age - no chips or cracks. This is a piece of Boston history!
Text on the match holders reads: "Fideli Certa Merces" which translates to "To the faithful there is certain reward."
This was designed to hold loose matches or a matchbook and was likely placed out in the bar area or lobby of the hotel during the 1920's. At the time, the Parker House Hotel was among the finest hotels in Boston (and the country) and includes a long list of famous folks from that era that stayed there. You never know who could have used this piece while lounging in the hotel's bar!
Dimensions are approximately 6 inches long, 4.25 inches wide and 4 inches tall.
