The body of this doll is made from paulownia sawdust.

The handcraft of kimekomi dolls is a Japanese traditional handcraft in which you put fabrics on wooden bodies which are made from paulownia sawdust or urethane bodies.

In order to make a kimekomi doll, first, bodies are cleaned with files, then fabrics are tucked into grooves of bodies with a two-knife spatula. We provide some videos on our website to learn how to make kimekomi dolls as below.
