Yucca gloriosa 'Variegata' or Spanish Dagger is an aptly named ornamental shrub that is known for adding a serene atmosphere to desert style gardens and more. This shrub has largely fallen out of large scale cultivation due to its sharply thorned leaves. The tight, architectural rosette growth of this shrub expands from the middle to gradually produce larger leaves as it matures. Depending on light and water conditions Spanish Dagger's variegation can range from a crisp white accent along the edges of the leaves to larger yellow toned stripes along the leaves.

This plant was awarded the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society for its desirable qualities. Once established, Spanish Dagger is known to grow well in poor quality sandy soils that provide few nutrients to other plants. At maturity, Spanish Dagger will produce a tall bloom stalk up 4 feet in height accented by cream colored bell shaped flowers.
